Description
CPI Gryphon Coin Changer — 6-Tube MDB Coin Mech
CPI (Crane Payment Innovations / formerly MEI) Gryphon coin changer for commercial vending. Six-tube payout cassette, MDB interface, and next-generation coin sensing. Direct upgrade/replacement for many older MEI CF7000 / CF7512 style changers on MDB machines.
What it does: Accepts coins, stores change in six tubes, and pays out change. Patented sensing for fast, secure recognition. Three payout motors so a jammed motor does not kill the whole changer. Sonar tube-level sensing with auto-float to keep tubes stocked and cut exact-change lockouts.
Typical specs:
- 6-tube removable cassette (about 12% more capacity than 5-tube mechs)
- Accepts coins 15–33 mm diameter, 1.2–3.3 mm thick
- Accept rate: about 95–97% under normal conditions
- Accept speed: up to 2 coins/sec
- Payout speed: up to 6 coins/sec
- Interface: MDB (also EXEC / BDV / VCCS on some builds)
- Power: 34 VDC MDB (12–24 VDC on Executive versions)
- Size: about 371 × 138 × 80 mm (~14.6" × 5.4" × 3.2")
- Weight: about 5 lb
- Service: USB, optional IrDA / Bluetooth / CPI Synq
- Common US cassette codes: AAC (5¢ / 10¢ / 25¢ / 25¢ / 25¢ / $1) or AAF ($1 / 25¢ / 25¢ / 10¢ / 5¢ / 5¢)
Fits / used on: Most MDB snack, drink, combo, and glass-front venders with a standard coin-changer channel (Crane, USI, Royal, Vendo, AMS, and similar). Confirm MDB harness and cassette layout before swapping.
Common reason to replace: No credit / rejected good coins; empty or jammed tubes; payout motor failure; “exact change” when tubes should have coins; upgrading an older 5-tube MEI/Mars mech.
Install notes:
- Disconnect machine power.
- Mount on the standard changer rail and plug the MDB harness (Y-cable if a bill validator is also on the bus).
- Load the cassette and set PAR / float in the Gryphon menu if needed.
- Match currency and tube code (USD cassette will not run foreign coin sets).
- If the display shows no internal communication, check MDB power and any Synq/USB cover connections.
High-capacity MDB changer for operators replacing a failed mech or moving off older CF-series units. Verify tube configuration and interface against the machine you are putting it in.
